Governor Gretchen Whitmer visited Bells Brewery in Kalamazoo recently and cooked up her own brew made up of Michigan Hops and peaches, and it was named in her honor, ” Governor’s Whitbier.”
“Today, I rolled up my sleeves to help Bell’s brew a special “Governor’s Whitbier” made from Michigan-grown hops and peaches,” said Governor Gretchen Whitmer. “Brewers like Bell’s are what makes us the Great Beer State, so let’s raise a glass to Michigan’s breweries.”
The beer will be available at the Governor’s Pure Michigan Tourism Conference slated April 9-11 at the Radisson Plaza Hotel at Kalamazoo Center.
The Governor posted on her X (Twitter) profile, “the team at Bell’s welcomed me with open arms and open taps so I could help brew up something special using Michigan-grown hops and peaches.”
Bell’s Brewery is deeply rooted in homebrewing, in Kalamazoo, and sharing its craft with beer lovers old and new. Coming to Kalamazoo to attend Kalamazoo College, Larry Bell started homebrewing in the early 1980s and opened a homebrew supply shop in Downtown Kalamazoo in 1983. As more and more people were requesting samples of his beer, Larry began brewing commercially in a 15 gallon soup pot and opened Kalamazoo Brewing Co., which sold its first beer on Sept. 19, 1985.
