Lansing New Wire had a chance to catch up with Ashton, Grand Ledge High’s freshmen wrestler in the 165-pound division. Ashton has a combined record of 37-12 and finished third at the MHSAA Regional 2-1 Tournament. He will be making his first appearance at the State Wrestling Finals at Ford Field in Detroit slated March 1-2. Here is what he had to say about his wrestling experience in Meet the Comets Q&A:
Q: Why did you get into wrestling?
A: My Dad was a State Champ at Grand Ledge and wrestled at Michigan State and he was the coach for Grand Ledge for many years so he got me into it.
Q: What do you love most about wrestling?
A: Being physical and winning.
Q: Who is the greatest wrestler of all time?
A: Cael Sanderson
Q: What is your best memory on the wrestling team?
A: Staying in the hotel for a tournament.
Q: Who has helped you become the wrestler you are today?
A: My Coaches.
Q: Do you recommend wrestling to others, why or why not?
A: Yes, because it’s good for you to stay in shape and active and it’s a great sport.
Q: What do you like most about being on the wrestling team?
A: The bond we have.
Q: How do you prepare for your next match?
A: Eat and drink and stay locked in.
Q: What is your goal for this wrestling season?
A: Make it to State.
Q: What is one of your goals for after high school?
A: Play sports in college.
