LANSING, Mich. — Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church will host its annual Pilgrim Fest on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., offering free resources, health services, entertainment and activities for families throughout the Lansing community.
The event will be held at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, 5200 Pleasant Grove Road, Lansing, MI 48911. Bishop Edward Rockett is the church’s senior pastor.
Pilgrim Fest will feature free new and gently used clothing, coats and shoes for people of all ages, while supplies last. Families can also receive free backpacks filled with school supplies on a first-come, first-served basis. Children must be present to receive a backpack.
Health services will also be available through the University of Michigan Sparrow Health Mobile, which will provide free sports physicals and health screenings.
Organizers will offer a variety of activities and services for children and families, including a free prayer tent focused on peace, hope and healing; face painting by Iyvanna; free haircuts by The Mobile Barber Company; a free bounce house; and a free video game truck.
Four young girls will also have an opportunity to receive free French braids from Braids & More by Alonda. Children must be present and bring their own hair supplies. The winner’s name will be drawn at 10:15 a.m. during Pilgrim Fest.
Entertainment throughout the event will include performances by local artists and groups, including Legacy Dance Company, Harper Berry, Candace Potts, the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church Voices of Unity Choir, Reesey and Spoken Praise. Dancing and live music will also be provided by D.J. Lolo.
Free food and refreshments will be available while supplies last. Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, Poppa’s Cookbook LLC Catering & More and Southside Smitty will provide hot dogs and chips. Nikki’s Cupcake Creations and More will provide homemade cupcakes, while The Golden Tier Bakery will provide homemade cookies. Sharron’s Concessions will offer free snow cones and cotton candy.
The festival will also feature community vendors, raffle prizes and additional activities for attendees.
Because of the summer heat, CATA will provide a cooling bus where participants can take a break and cool down during the event.
Organizers also expressed appreciation to The Kitchen Sink Mobile Food and Catering LLC and Eastside Fish Fry and Grill for donating lunch for volunteers working at the festival.
The event is supported by community sponsors, including LAFCU, serving as the Unity Sponsor; the City of Lansing, serving as the Compassion Level Sponsor; and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Chi Epsilon Omega Chapter, which donated school supplies for the free backpack giveaway.
With its combination of community resources, health services, food, entertainment and family activities, Pilgrim Fest is designed to provide an opportunity for Lansing residents to come together, connect with local organizations and enjoy a day of fellowship.
