Detroit Tigers manager AJ Hinch reached a major career milestone Wednesday night, recording his 900th managerial victory as the Tigers outlasted the Colorado Rockies 8–6 in 10 innings at Coors Field.
Hinch became the 75th manager in Major League Baseball history to reach the 900-win mark, joining the ranks of some of the game’s most respected leaders, including Bruce Bochy, Bob Melvin, and Terry Francona.
The milestone win came in dramatic fashion. With the game tied in the 10th inning, Spencer Torkelson ripped a go-ahead double to score Riley Greene, and Trey Sweeney added insurance with a bloop single that plated another run. Reliever Will Vest pitched two scoreless innings in relief to earn the win, as the Tigers improved to 23–13 and maintained their spot atop the American League Central standings.
Hinch, 50, is in his 12th season as a major league skipper. He began his managerial career with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2009 before leading the Houston Astros to a World Series championship in 2017. Since taking over in Detroit in 2021, he has overseen the Tigers’ rebuild and helped guide them to a postseason appearance in 2024.
