Officer Caitlin Markey Returns to Duty After Being Shot in Line of Duty

After enduring three surgeries and months of grueling rehabilitation, Officer Caitlin Markey has officially returned to active duty with the Lansing Police Department.

Markey was shot in the line of duty in April 2024, an incident that set off a long and difficult recovery process. Her return marks a significant milestone not just for her, but for her fellow officers and the community she serves.

“Nothing about her rehab was easy,” a department spokesperson said. “But Officer Markey is no stranger to hard work.”

Her resilience and determination have been widely praised throughout the city. Today, both the Lansing Police Department and the broader Lansing community are celebrating her return.

“Officer Markey — we’re so glad to have you back, and so is the City of Lansing,” the department stated.
