On May 3, during the Lansing Lugnuts Baseball game a local dance group, Ballet Maria Luz, will be performing on the field in honor of Cinco de Mayo and Mexican American Culture in Lansing.
Last year they performed their special dance routine named “Aguas Calientes” (Hot Waters) that wowed the fans at the baseball game.
This year, Ballet Maria Luz will be performing on field prior to the game at 3:20 p.m. and in between game breaks. The group will be performing to the Music of Jalisco from Mariachi Vargas De Tecalitlan. They will display their beautiful skirt movement skills as they represent the heritage of Mexico with joy and enthusiasm.
On May 3, the Lansing Lugnuts will play against the Lake County Captains. The game is scheduled for 4:05 p.m.

“We haven’t presented this piece in more than eight years,” said Maria Luz, Ballet Maria Luz dance instructor. “The girls are going to have their dresses also colorfully designed.”
Ballet Maria Luz Folklorico began teaching students in the Lansing area in 1980. Luz is a professional dancer who has trained in Mexico, and brought the dancing tradition to Lansing. Over the years the dance team has entertained, and also serves as a means of cultural preservation and identity.
They have performed at festivals, special events, and celebrations in Lansing over the many years.
This will be the third time the dance team comprised of Lansing Area youth and adults has put on a show for the crowd in-between the innings of the Lugnuts game since the COVID pandemic.
