As the Detroit Tigers prepare to kick off the 2025 season, their Latino players are expected to play a crucial role in the team’s success. From infield anchors to outfield speedsters, these players bring experience, skill, and energy to the Tigers’ roster.
Javier Báez – Veteran Leader in the Infield
Puerto Rican shortstop Javier Báez enters the season as a key leader for the Tigers. Known for his flashy defense and explosive bat, Báez looks to bounce back with a strong performance in 2025. His ability to play multiple positions, including shortstop and third base, gives the Tigers flexibility in the infield.
Gleyber Torres – New Power in the Lineup
Venezuelan infielder Gleyber Torres is a major offseason addition for Detroit. A two-time All-Star, Torres brings power and consistency to the middle infield. His offensive production and ability to turn key double plays will be a major asset for the Tigers this season.
Andy Ibáñez – Versatile Infielder
Cuban utility man Andy Ibáñez returns as a valuable depth piece. His ability to play multiple positions makes him an important piece in A.J. Hinch’s lineup. Ibáñez showed flashes of strong hitting in 2024, and he hopes to build on that momentum this year.
Manuel Margot – Defensive Anchor in the Outfield
Dominican outfielder Manuel Margot is known for his speed and strong glove. Whether starting in center field or coming off the bench as a defensive replacement, Margot’s range and quickness will be key for the Tigers. He also provides a solid contact bat at the bottom of the lineup.
José Urquidy – Pitching Help on the Way
Mexican pitcher José Urquidy, a former Houston Astros starter, is expected to join the Tigers later this season as he recovers from Tommy John surgery. When healthy, Urquidy is a reliable rotation arm who could provide much-needed depth for Detroit’s pitching staff.
