Lansing News Wire Q&A: KETIA WAKIYOTA, LANSING EASTERN HIGH SOPHOMORE LADY WRESTLER

Lansing News Wire had a chance to catch up with Ketia Wakiyota, Lansing Eastern’s female wrestler competing the 231 pound division. Here is what she had to say in Meet the Lady Quakers.

Q: Why did you get into wrestling?

A: I was introduced to wrestling by a friend of mine in 7th grade but never got into it.

Q: What do you love most about wrestling?

A: I love how it’s like fighting without the intention of hurting someone. You have to have strategy and read what your opponent is doing.

Q: Who is your favorite wrestler?

A: I don’t have one right now.

Q: Who is the greatest wrestler of all time?

A: I don’t know any wrestlers.

Q: What is your best memory on the wrestling team?

A: Going to my first tournament.

Q: Who has helped you become the wrestler you are today?

A: All the coaches and many of the teammates, mostly tho seniors.

Q: Do you recommend wrestling to others, why or why not?

A: I recommend wrestling to others because, although, it’s a pretty aggressive sport, it forces you to think in difficult and uncomfortable situations. Wrestling has helped me think quicker and not give up in difficult situations. In the small amount of time, I’ve practiced, I’ve learned many life skills.

Q: What do you like most about being on the wrestling team?

A: I like the sportsmanship.

Q: How do you prepare for your next match?

A: Try breathing, and clear my head.

Q: What is your goal for this wrestling season?

A: Too wrestle as much as I can.

Q: What is one of your goals for after high school?

A: Go to college.

Q: What is your favorite classroom subject?

A: English and concert band 

Q: What is your dream school/university?

A: Central Michigan University, University of Bangkok, Thailand

Q: What is your favorite food?

A: Any African food.

Q: What is your favorite song/music artist?

A: Any Lana Del Rey, Eloise and Bruno Major, song.
