DETROIT — The Detroit Tigers continued their early-season momentum Monday afternoon, topping the New York Yankees 6–2 at Comerica Park for their fourth straight win.
Casey Mize looked sharp on the mound, earning his first win since returning from Tommy John surgery.
The right-hander threw six solid innings, allowing just one earned run on four hits while striking out six. His poise kept the Yankees off balance through most of the game.The Tigers’ offense broke through in the third inning when Andy Ibáñez launched a three-run homer to left, giving Detroit a 3–0 lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
Rookie Justyn-Henry Malloy added to the damage in the fifth with a clutch two-run single.New York starter Carlos Rodón struck out eight but struggled with command, walking four and giving up five earned runs across five innings.
Aaron Judge drove in a run with a single in the fifth, and Ben Rice sparked some hope with a triple but was picked off at third base—stalling what could have been a rally.
Detroit’s defense flashed leather in the seventh with a slick 1-6-4-3 double play, thanks to a deflection off Tyler Holton and a quick pivot from shortstop Javier Báez.
