In a heartwarming return to his roots, basketball legend Erving “Magic” Johnson brought his magic touch of excitement to Lansing with a spectacular back to school backpack give away and Car Show in honor of his father Ervin Johnson Sr., recently. The event, took place at Union Missionary Baptist Church, located at 500 S. Martin Luther King Jr Blvd on August 24.
Magic Johnson, a Lansing native, hosted this event as part of his ongoing commitment to giving back to the community that supported him throughout his career. The Car Show will featured an impressive lineup of classic and custom vehicles, showcasing the passion and craftsmanship of local car enthusiasts. Attendees also had the chance to meet Magic Johnson himself.
Funds were raised to benefit Michigan Concerns of Police Survivors, which provides resources to assist the surviving families and co-workers of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty, and Santa’s First Responders, a group of police officers, firefighters and educators who raise funds and provide holiday cheer for those less fortunate.
Magic Johnson expressed his excitement about the event as he stood for pictures and signed autographs, saying, “Lansing has always been home to me, and I’m thrilled to be back in the community that has supported me throughout my journey. ”
