By RAUL GARCIA JR | Lansing News Wire

Lansing News Wire had a chance to catch up with Avery Hannah, Haslett High’s freshmen combo guard. Here is what she had to say about her basketball experience in Meet the Lady Vikings Q&A:

Q: Tell us when you knew you wanted to be a varsity basketball player, and why?

A: I knew I wanted to be a varsity basketball player when I was a water girl for Haslett varsity girls basketball. I was in 4th grade. I was already playing basketball. I looked up to the players and wanted to play in front of a crowd.

Q: What is your fondest memory of your experience on the team this season?

A: Two of my favorite memories are when we played East Lansing, and I scored 16 pts in our win. I know a few of the EL players, so competing against them was fun. Also, a great memory was beating one of our rivals, Dewitt on the road. They are a great team and it was probably our best team game.

Q: What did you do this summer to improve your game to get ready for this season?

A: I was working with a private coach to work on skills. I played AAU summer basketball with the Michigan Mystics. I also went to all the summer workouts and team camps with Haslett.

Who’s your favorite professional basketball player?

A: Nia Clouden

Q: What drew you to play basketball over other sports?

A: I’ve played soccer and ran track. I’ve always felt like basketball was my favorite.

Q: What aspect of your game comes easy to you?

A: Being competitive and trying to be the best teammate I can.

Q: If you could play any basketball player 1v1 who would it be?

A: Dede Hagamann at MSU

Q: Is there a particular significance to your jersey number?

A: 24 is my Mom’s favorite number (her birthdate). That wasn’t available, so I picked my Dad’s college football number – 12

Q: What tips would you give to someone going out for basketball?

A: To give it a shot, do your best and be confident.

Q: What team is considered your biggest rival, and why?

A: Williamston (league) and Dewitt (non-league)

Q: What is your most memorable shot?

A: My first varsity 3 pointer at Grand Ledge.

A: My House by Flo Rida

Q: What is your favorite food?

A: My Dad’s enchiladas.
